“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
- Viktor Frankl
The nervous system is our body’s control centre, directing everything from our heart beat to our thoughts. When it is in balance we feel calm, focused and able to meet stresses creatively and with control. When we are under chronic stress we shift into survival mode, flooded with cortisol. This shows up as anxiety, fatigue, difficulty making good decisions, anger, sleeplessness and other health issues. Yoga for nervous system regulation helps to restore balance and flexibility to the nervous system and boosts emotional and physical well-being.
As humans we are social beings. Our nervous systems do not operate as islands. Our nervous system is directly impacted by and impacts those around us. A regulated nervous system helps to regulate those around you in order to foster trust, productivity, creativity, well-being and a positive community. This is evident in every system including the workplace where people depend on one another.
For most of us there is a great challenge to slowing down our movement and connecting to our bodies and emotions. It is often far easier to stay on the fast and furious side of life but our nervous system was not designed to live in survival mode for so long. Slowing down can provide mental space and clarity as well as spaciousness in the body so that when we are in the midst of an internal or external storm we can find the perspective to act from a more intentional space.
Please get in touch to discuss how I can bring yoga to your workplace. I create workshops, weekly or monthly classes and wellness away days all of which can be bespoke to your specific needs. Previous workshops have focused on addressing issues such as burn out, confidence, stress, anxiety and sleeplessness. All workshops are designed to address mental wellbeing. My goal is that you will all leave feeling that a weight has been released from your shoulders, that you are more centred and confident in your body and mind. Yoga and mindfulness help to create a space between a stimulus and a response. The more we practice yoga and mindfulness on the mat, the better able we are to rest in that pause and choose our response wisely off the mat where it counts.
I’d love to hear from you about how we can work together to find your State of Grace.
